P.A.C.

Parental Advisory Committee (PAC)

Why Parental Involvement?

87% of a child’s waking hours, to the age of eighteen, are under the influence of the home environment

  • an increasing number of studies are finding strong relationships between parental involvement and student achievement
  • people who are involved in a decision are more likely to understand it and be committed to its success
  • parental involvement can make better use of expertise and problem- solving skills available in the community
  • it is in keeping with the “democratic principle” (those who are affected by the decision should have some voice in its development).

When Parents Are Actively Involved

  • student performance is improved
  • student dropout rates are lower
  • student attitudes and self concept are more positive
  • suspension rates are lower
  • schools are more effective
  • student absenteeism is decreased
  • teachers indicate greater satisfaction with their work
  • opportunities for at risk students improve
  • student, teacher and parent perceptions of classroom climate are more positive.

What is the P.A.C.? – You are!

The Parents Advisory Council is a group of parents who take an active interest in their children’s education and school. All parents are invited to be part of the PAC which usually meets each month. These meetings give parents the opportunity to become more informed about and give input on the programs, activities, procedures and policy of the school. It also allows parents to become active in activities run by PAC. An active PAC is very valuable since it acts in an advisory capacity with the school.
